Baird’s Malting of the UK produces a range of high quality roasted Crystal malts that are ideal for producing English style ales, as well as a number of other styles. The base malt here is stewed at mashing temperature, in order to ensure conversion of the starches to sugars, and then roasted at high temperatures in order to achieve a uniform glassy appearance and crystallization. The end result is a light-pale Crystal malt with a brown hue. Carastan will lend a defined toffee and caramel note to your beer with a hint of toasted grain.
