We find plant labels and markers to be very helpful in a variety of situations! They can be very very helpful when you're doing your seed starting and need to remember what's in each cell pack or tray. They're also great when you transition out to the garden and need to remember what you've planted in each row and so on. We also use them in our houseplant collections so we can keep track of our plant names. Lastly, we often utilize the heavier duty plant markers outdoors in more permanent plantings to keep track of perennial plants and trees. It gets hard to remember what the name of that bush is 5 years later!
