Cover cropping is one of the best passive improvements you can make to your gardening practices. Allowing gardens to sit barren has a series of negative impacts on the soil and environment. Using cover crops can improve soil health, prevent erosion, add organic matter, attract pollinators, promote and feed your soil biology, increase tilth, sequester atmospheric carbon, and suppress weeds!
All of our cover crops are untreated and non-GMO.
Variety: Organic Buckwheat
Benefits: Buckwheat is a great quick cover crop. It’s fast to germinate and reach maturity and does a great job of suppressing weeds, covering soil, and adding biomass once it is turned in. It’s also an excellent nectar source for pollinators and has shown to scavenger more phosphorus for the soil than other grain cover crops. Not cold hardy, not drought tolerant.
